Make Abortion Available to All, Then Work to Decrease Need

This little girl Riley Ann Sawyers, aka Baby Grace, was killed by her parents, who had her as a teenage pregnancyI realize I’m opening one of the biggest can of worms in America, but we are in college to learn the tough issues, right? I think abortion should remain legal, and all obstacles should be removed which cause restrictions for teenagers.

Stories like this strongly motivate my opinion on abortion. Innocent kids are brutally tortured and murdered, and I cannot help but wish those idiots had gotten an abortion in the first place. I would rather see a fetus aborted than a young child harmed in these worst ways.

I can support a waiting period of one week between when the person seeking an abortion first approaches a doctor or clinic to seek an abortion. I find it perfectly acceptable to give them all the pertinent information and schedule the abortion for at least seven days later. This provides a more than adequate “cooling off period” and could prevent some abortions from happening, hopefully more adoptions would occur. I support this so long as the woman is given space to make up her own mind, and is not targeted and hounded by abortion foes. Of course this one-week waiting period should be waived in case of second trimester abortions or if the mother’s life is in danger.

I think we should remove all these barriers to abortions, then work on reducing the need for abortions. Give our young people quality sex education from fourth grade every year through high school. Provide quality free birth control access to everyone in America. Promote adoption programs, and share public service messages from couples who desperately want to adopt a young baby. What else can be done to reduce the need for an abortion, without restricting abortions.
